Applications:
Hildegard von Bingen was very fond of the scent of fir; she saw it as a balsamic and revitalising remedy for exhaustion. She recommended fir resin for healing wounds. The antiseptic and balsamic effect of fir is well known; fir needle oil helps against coughs and has an expectorant effect.
The slightly sweet-tasting seeds on the fir cones can be given to children to snack on, thus also preventing colds. If you regularly chew small pieces of fir resin in your mouth, you can prevent tooth decay and strengthen your gums. You can also achieve this effect by taking the GEMMO silver fir product.
Rubbing fir tincture into the temples helps with headaches and migraines.
Gottfried Hochgruber recommends fir reduction for fatigue and exhaustion; used daily for at least 3 weeks, you will experience this reduction as a real energy booster.
Magical:
In many legends you will read about the ‘holy fir tree’; the custom of the topping-out ceremony is still practised today, whereby a fir tree is attached to the gable when a house is built to protect the house and its future inhabitants from misfortune.
The fir tree is said to have an auspicious aura, which is probably why it is so popular as a Christmas tree in the dark season.
We recommend that you do not cut down a fir tree for this tradition, but rather use a potted plant and if you can, place the tree in your garden afterwards - nature will thank you for it! >> more info
